Good Morning,
So glad to find your website.
I have a question about my 28 year old daughter. She has just recently married (February)....She and her husband and our other two younger girls (19 & 26) were up for dinner this past week and I noticed that Amy was talking a GREAT DEAL in baby talk to not only her husband, but also to other adults. WHY????? I don't even think she is aware of it. Like I said.... why and should I say something to her? She is very bright, beautiful and manager of her underwriting department at work.
Please help?
Thank you,
Reba

Dear Reba,
Hi Reba, I have found that many people are very capable and mature when it comes to managing their careers, however, where many people are lacking is in their emotional development. So , although your daughter's vocational, physical and perhaps, spiritual maturity may match her chronological age, her emotional growth, like most people on the planet is stuck at a younger age. I am happy that you were able to witness her baby talk and that you are interested in what this means and what can be done about it. When we are younger(which we all are) in the emotional arena, we usually need something and often we are not even aware of what it is we need. You might say to your daughter that you noticed her baby talk(without judgment) and that you were wondering what it is that she needs and is there anything that you, as her mother, could provide. If she is unsure of what that is , just let her know that you are there and available, should she discover something she wants to share with you at a later date. My experience as a parent is that I attempt to make myself available and listen and guide in a receptive and non-judgmental fashion and as I do this, I have found that my son is more likely to seek me out to talk to me and to tell me what it is he needs from me to help him grow up so that perhaps one day his emotional and chronological ages might coincide.
